Several years ago, I looked at my prescribed medication for one of my several annual UTI bouts and wondered if it could be the cause of the incredible yeast infection I had developed after taking it. Sure enough, the doc confirmed that it was.

I asked him, am I to endure a massive yeast infection just to cure a urinary tract infection? He said that was a side effect of the antibiotic but that it was unusual for it to be so prounounced. Of course, I had the ONLY case he’d seen like it. (Yeah, right.)

At that point, I went online to seek information and that’s when a whole new world opened up to me: alternative remedies and the natural route to health. Wow! I didn’t even know it existed.

Yes Virginia, there is another way to maintain health and vigor throughout life and there aren’t those pesky side effects to worry about. Our ancestors did it this way and gee, they seemed to make it okay.

I’m not shrugging the fact that we have been able to thwart illness quickly and increase our length of life, but if you listen to the drug commercials or advertisements, it’s hard not to miss the fact that at least a quarter of the length of the commercial is devoted to side effects and things to tell your doctor about should you develop them. PLEASE!

If trading one evil for several others is the only answer allopathic medicine has to offer, then I’m looking elsewhere. That is not a quality of life in which I’m interested.

There are members of my family who are under the ‘care’ of a doctor and have been for several years. They have not improved, but rather have worsened over the years. Their drug shelves are now located in a cupboard to hold them all.

This is clearly not for me so I began to read what I could about this ‘new’ information. Being the book freak that I am, I now have a great library on the subject of herbal medicines and the growing and harvesting of herb plants.

A couple of years ago I began Herbalist Training but left it by the wayside after a few classes due to family issues going on. I enjoyed every minute of it and now it’s time for me to get back onto the path of newbie herbalist.

Join me as I learn about the exciting field.
