<p>I’m often asked which one area causes the most triggers or we lose the most energy to and I would have to say that it’s getting effected by and taking on other people’s issues and energy (surrogating).</p>
<p> </p>
<p>We listen to others (or even just observe them) and often get drained, triggered or react in some way. It seems that it is only the self realised who don’t. We try not to let it affect us but often times it does and we can’t help our mind from at least running stories and judgements which we then try to block out, deny, avoid or mask.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Sometimes we have a positive reaction as we bounce off the negative to be more positive but this is still a reaction and we don’t really want to or need to do that. Instead, we want to aim to be more like the bow and arrow that does not waver from the target of choice.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The first thing to do is to realise that we do get affected but not influenced. We may feel emotions rising and have the urge to react but self control, solid confidence and a non-violent attitude sees us use any behaviour or situation as simply a reference to see if we are still soft yet solid on our own path.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I see the path to total and complete detachment as a 3 part process where first we become aware of others and their impact on our actions and reactions, and second is to be vigilant and make attempts to stop reacting and becoming involved, thirdly we naturally become more and more detached.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In learning to become Emotionally Resilient, instead of saying that “I am detached” it is often more like “I don’t care”. This is a great starting point if it comes with the intention that you really do care but you are just trying to not be affected by it.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Also, there is a part of the ego that owns everything, the mind ‘senses anger’ and goes straight towards it (to work it out) and the ego takes hold in milli-seconds and says “I feel anger” then all of a sudden you have reacted with and been effected by another’s anger. This is the main cause of all instances of surrogating and taking on other people&#8217;s issues as our own. You will be surprised how often we do this compared to the times we are actually aware of!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In becoming ‘bullet proof’ and where anything washes off you like ‘water off a ducks back’ it may be a good start to use my spiritual affirmation number 1: “This is not my shit”. Feel free to modify it as you wish but as an Aussie male, it helped me train and reprogram my mind and ego to not take others issues on, or get affected and influenced in anyway.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I found that sure it was negative energy people who were angry, aggressive and controlling or dumping, but more than not it was the rescuer and righteous aspects of my self that needed the most attention. I would try listen with compassion to clients and really feel for them and yet not be able to detach from the urge to ‘fix’ them and rescue rather than offer help and advice in a detached way. It is absurd to feel responsibility and guilt for other people&#8217;s lives that I hardly even knew but as a healer I did and my experience with thousands of clients has found that most other people do too.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>People who we have an emotional bond to effect us the most and is the main reason why there is so much drama, conflict, distance, rescuing and resentments held at times.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I found that if I said my spiritual affirmation number 1 over and over in my head as I talked to people that I could listen more attentively and not get so distracted in my mind with wavering thoughts, reactions and emotions. I discovered that my own opinions came out a lot clearer, and when I needed to do some tough love and tell someone a hard hitting truth, that it came out and was delivered more softly and compassionately and actually had a better impact and lasting effect.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Try it for yourself for a few days and if you still find yourself attached then at least you know that it is your shit, and that you have an underlying issue that needs to be made aware of. As a healer, I use kinesiology to identify the emotions and situations from the past that contribute to emotional reactions and energy loss that in the present moment feels out of my control. In my clinic, one or two sessions are enough to get.</p>
